CHANGES



Hi Kids! I hope all of you US folks had a great holiday weekend, and I hope you non-US folks just had a great non-holiday weekend.

This post is to let you know that recently because of health and time constraints on both the mod end as well as the player end in this game, Caldera will move from being an open and public game to an invite-only GPSL.

What does this mean for you?

Activity Requirements are changing effective immediately
Instead of having a monthly activity post we will now have a monthly check in where you will comment with yourself, your characters, and let us know that you’re still around and which characters you’re still interested in playing.

Invite-Only
This also means exactly what it sounds like. Caldera has become and invite-only game which means any new players MUST be invited by an existing player before they can apply

Mod-team
Because of the changing needs of the game and the original mod team, please consider Monty (and of course the mod email/dropbox) as your point of contact for the mods for the time being.

You’ll begin to see these changes on the official game documents over the course of the next week. As for your May “activity” because of the changes, May activity will be waived.

PLOT
Because of the change, the Revenant plot is being pushed back to the beginning of June. You’ll be hit with a new version of a pcal in a few days!

Hellooooooo party people! As promised, the mod squad would like to try something a little experimental in terms of dealing with the first half of the month’s plot! If this is something that works/you guys enjoy, we would be happy to do this again! If this doesn’t, nbd, we’ll just give you our home addresses and you can come flog us.

THE BIG BAD
Calderas, being magical in nature, have a handful of days every year where they produce extra magical energy. May 1st is one of these days, and in our lore, Beltane is a result of this magical phenomenon. Rituals performed on Beltane would normally invoke a Green Man-like creature that would bring good tidings to the area in the form of more successful spellwork, good weather, fertility, heightened abilities, and a chance to form a deeper connection with the magic inside the caldera. Since the Yellowstone Caldera is corrupted, so is this creature.

With many ‘old ways’ forgotten, THE SHADE was not strong enough to manifest without a ritual, and this is why the trees snatched up your characters. It sapped (hurhurhur) their energy to give to the Shade, and in turn, it sealed the deal by possessing the characters found in the clearing earlier this month and performed a ritual that enabled it to manifest.

The corrupted Shade doesn’t quite ‘remember’ what it’s supposed to be, but it’s still trying to do its job.

Sort of.

It’s brought rain, weird hookups, and out of control abilities, but it’s not done. The blackouts that characters are experiencing are due to the Shade possessing them, and attempting to walk them to Yellowstone to sacrifice them, so it’s probably a good idea if you guys stop him.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
We would love to use this post as a means for you guys to come up with a solution to defeating the shade! Input, ideas, suggestions, questions, etc. If you’re unsure of how to proceed, but would like to involve your character anyway, that’s perfectly fine! If we don’t have some viable options by May 15th, we’ll probably shoulder-tap volunteers on this post to deal with the Shade!

Hello all! Welcome to Caldera's forth activity check post! Don't panic, this doesn't mean you need to give us your activity immediately!

This post will run for the duration of May and be closed on May 31st at 11:59 PM.
  • All characters in the regular activity bracket will need to provide two pieces of activity for each month.
  • All characters in an increased activity bracket (Temperance Leadership and The Craftsmen) will need to provide three pieces of activity for each month.
  • Characters added after the 20th of the month will only be expected to meet half of their activity requirement.
  • Characters added after the 27th of the month will be exempt from activity for the month.


A piece of activity is defined by the following:
  • A journal entry
  • A log or narrative
  • A comment thread of at least 20 comments, either via journal or in an IC/OOC post. — please be sure your character's contributions make up approximately half of these comments.
  • An IC/OOC post of your creation
  • A formally requested hiatus


This post will be on-going and you may post your activity as you complete it. You may also post your activity in one big batch at the end of the month if you'd like.

Please remember that all characters who do not meet the activity requirement will be removed from the game.

As we're now a bit settled in here at Caldera, we wanted to try something a little different with collecting plot. Namely, we wanted to give y'all the opportunity to drop cryptid ideas, general plots, and ideas into a screened post! Depending on how many ideas we get in one fell swoop, we may have these posts monthly, bimonthly, or however long it takes for us to get through your genius machinations. PLOT UPDATE



As spring finally begins to unfurl in Vigil (little snowbursts aside), the town is starting to get a little more active by soaking up the sunshine they've been so deprived of with all of these dang storms for the past month or so. Should your character join with the clusters of other Vigilites trying to enjoy the (admittedly muddy) spring this weekend and into early next week, they may happen to notice a few things that don't quite fit into the box of a Montanan spring:
  • A particularly cloying scent along the Galligator Trail that doesn't quite fit. There's a sweet undertone to it to be sure, nutty even, but it's mostly floral and evasively wonderful. It's the kind of thing that you want to follow, but due to the excessive wind it's hard to quite put your finger on what it is.
  • The trees -- specifically, the pine trees -- have a tendency of bending down and crouching over people today. Again, kind of hard to tell if it's the wind or not, but if you squint it sometimes happens when the air is completely still.
  • Finally, when there are bursts of sun from the mostly cloudy skies, sometimes your shadow just doesn't act right. You might notice your shadow wiggling, doing gestures that are completely different from what you're doing at that moment, or even attempting to split in two. But it's the kind of thing where, again, if you attempt to glimpse it... well, it doesn't quite seem to actually happen when you're staring at the shadow straight on.

I'm the Actual Worst -- well, I'm actually Cindy, but -- and dropped off the map due to a two-week overseas trip, wonky timezone differences, final exams, job interviews, and a final project.
